The Bomb Proof Wristwatch From Kaventsmann Uhren

It’s difficult to understand why anyone would want a bomb proof wristwatch. Sure, your watch might be able to withstand a C4 explosive blast – however, your body would be in a completely different state altogether.

That hasn’t stopped watch maker Kaventsmann Uhren, from pushing the boundaries of watch durability.

The one man company, (headed by Michael Barahona Fernandez) has produced what is stated to be the world’s strongest wristwatch.

The watchmaker used shock-resistant CuSn8 phosphor-bronze for the shell.

It is called the ‘Kaventsmann Triggerfish Bronze A2.’ The timepiece has been pressure tested to 300 bar (that’s 3000 meters of water pressure), blown up with 10 pounds of C4, and still keeps on ticking.

Fernandez creates all of the watch case parts by hand, in his Berlin workshop. As you can imagine, this takes some time, meaning only a handful of the watches go on sale each month.

For this particular model, the watchmaker used shock-resistant CuSn8 phosphor-bronze. This is the same material bridge load bearing plates are made of. The detachable back cap is made from stainless steel, and the front is a 10 mm piece of domed polycarbonate crystal.

After confirming the timepiece can resist water pressure of up to 300 bar, Fernandez enlisted the help of U.S. Special Forces for the ultimate test – a blast generated by 10 pounds of C4 plastic explosive.

The market for such a watch is obviously quite small, (as you can see from the images, it is rather clunky on the wrist) however those working in the bomb disposal industry may well be interested.
