The International Car Forest of the Last Church

How’s this for adults at play? Two Nevada artists named Chad Sorg and Mark Rippie, originally dreamed up the concept and called it, ‘The International Car Forest of the Last Church’.

In short, it is the most elaborate junk yard you are ever likely to come across. There’s no arguing that it looks damn cool though.

Sorg states that the idea first came to him while he was driving through Goldfield, Nevada. He saw a car standing on its nose in the sand. He stopped to investigate and discovered that it was the work of a local artist, Rippie.

By 2011, Sorg had moved to the city to work alongside him. There they began to expand that original work into the “forest’ that exists today.

At last count, 40 automobiles including cars, trucks, and vans have been balanced delicately on their ends or stacked on top one of another.

Once the vehicles are put into place, the two get to work on giving each installation a unique paint job. The motifs range in design, from skull and crossbones to caricatures of politicians.

Unfortunately, after an angry falling out at a party the two are no longer working together.

Furthermore, Rippie, who owns the land that the ‘Church’ stands on has been sent to jail on gun charges. However their vision still exists for all that drive out to the depths of Nevada to see it.
