The Perfect Shot – That Nearly Killed The Photographer

There is no denying that the above shot is incredible.

However, in order to capture it Pakistani photographer Atif Saeed put himself within a (big) cat’s whisker of being killed.

It all happened in a Lahore Safari Park back in 2012. During a drive through the park Saeed spotted a lion a short distance away.

It was an adult male lion, and what I liked most about him was the beautiful, dark hair on his neck,” the 38-year-old later recalled.

Foolishly, he got out of the car and crouched in the grass to take pictures with his 500mm telephoto lens.

He believes that the sound of the shutter may have irritated the lion. In an instant the magnificent beast had turned and was charging towards Saeed.

As you can see from the amazing photograph, the lion’s expression is one of ferocious power. However, Saeed was able to maintain his composure. He clicked the camera one more time to capture the most significant shot of his career, before leaping back into the car.

Slamming the door shut, he missed full contact with the lion by mere inches.

The feel of the aggressive, approaching lion from the camera is something that can’t be described,” he later told ABC news. “I was witnessing every small detail of movement that no photograph or movie can show.”
