Hot Holiday Hair: Festive Hairstyles for Any Type of Hair

It’s that time of year – when every other night seems to be a party! Between the office holiday soiree to New Year’s Eve, you may have to plan for a variety of fashion looks for a bunch of festive occasions. That includes cute hairstyles as well!

Here are five ideas for how to wear your holiday hair at the many celebrations you will be attending with friends, family and loved ones.

1. A Pop of Color

Why not try a new color for the holidays? You can go with a traditional blond or ginger shade to debut a whole new look for the new year.

Or, you can continue to celebrate with the still-popular trend of bright colors.  Why not a streak of blue, green or cherry red to match the colored lights on the tree? It doesn’t have to be permanent: there are lots of temporary dyes in a rainbow of options.

You can even go all Mrs. Claus with the popular silver fox “granny hair” look.

2. A Classy Chignon

For holiday parties with the grandparents or boss, you may opt for a more formal style. So long as your hair is long enough to put in a ponytail, you can create a chic chignon at the back of your neck.

You can make this bun tight like a ballerina or loose, letting tendrils of curls slip out around your face.  You can braid the hair and then pin it up, using a sparkly barrette.

If the flyaway strands around your face drive you crazy, spritz some hairspray or daub some gel to flatten the hair against your head and keep it in place throughout the night.

3. A Blunt Cut

A blunt cut is good for getting rid of split ends and for achieving a dramatic and angular look. This looks good in a short or long length, with or without bangs, and in any color.

A blunt cut can show off your neck and shoulders, or your sparkly necklace and earrings if paired with an off the shoulder dress or an outfit with a plunging neckline.

Unless you are a hairdresser, don’t try this yourself at home. A trip to a professional salon is well worth the investment to get the perfect haircut to match your face.

4. French Braids

French braids look classy and cute. You can wear a single plait down your back, brightened up with a velvet ribbon or Swarovski crystal hairpins.

You can even wear double braids, for a cute elvish style! If you live in a cold climate, two braids peeking out under a warm beanie is a fun way to look stylish and stay warm. Plus, you won’t have to worry about hat head.

5. Pixie Cut

Maybe you want to start the New Year off with a big change, like cutting your hair off. A short pixie cut is easy to maintain and can be dressed up in a lot of ways. Some festive ways to style short hair include pin curls, colors or spikes.

Again- nothing has to be forever: if you have short hair and sometimes want to have your long hair back, extensions are a fun way to change it up.
