5 of the Most Dangerous Types of Car Accidents

You’re making a 2-hour commute home from work after going through a 10-hour shift. To say you’re tired is a complete understatement. As you drive, your attention begins to wane a little bit causing to drift into the other lane.

Luckily, you get out of this with just a little clip with another vehicle. You honestly can’t even tell you and the other car had a collision. Not everyone gets out this lucky though.

To help you become more aware of your surroundings on the road, keep these dangerous types of car accidents in mind the next time you’re on the commute home from work.

1. Head-On Collision

The most dangerous car accident that you could ever have on the road is a head-on collision. The most common types of a head-on collision are ones where your car comes into contact with another vehicle and ones where your car crashes into an object.

Striking a Vehicle

Even if two vehicles are moving at what most would consider a snail’s pace, someone can still get hurt badly in a head-on collision. This is because the impact is relative to the collective MPH both vehicles are going. So, if you and another driver are both going 40 and crash into each other, you might as well have run into a pole while going 80.

The only difference is that a car is a lot bigger than a pole and there are two sets of lives involved.

Striking an Object

Despite the fact that colliding with another car is more deadly, that doesn’t mean that we’re downplaying how catastrophic it could be to run head first into a pole at 60 miles an hour.

A pole or tree are both solid objects that are planted firmly into the ground. It isn’t going to budge when you run into it. This means that your car absorbs the full impact of the crash.

2. T-Bone/Side Collision

Most cars are built with a bumper at the front and back to absorb damage done by a crash. While some manufacturers are installing airbags and other protective measures for the side of their vehicles, they’re still fairly vulnerable.

Most side collisions involve one car hitting the side of another car with their front or back bumper. The bumper of the other car absorbs most of the impact so the car that did the hitting is most likely fine. Meanwhile, the door of the other car is in a crumpled heap due to the lack of protection.

Side collisions make up the second largest number of vehicle-related deaths. They can get pretty gruesome.

3. Drunk Driving

Any of the other deadly crashes can fall into this category but an extra layer of danger is involved when one or both of the drivers are drunk.  Drunk drivers have a slowed reaction time which can make all the difference in a crash.

A driver being off by a single MPH can mean life or death when a crash is involved. Also, take the following scenario in mind.

You’re swerving off the road because things are a little icy. If you’re sober with a clear head you’re more likely to remember the lecture your driving instructor gave you when this sort of thing happens. Turn in the opposite direction than the car is swerving.

If you’re drunk and afraid, you’re not going to be able to recall anything. You’ll end up landing yourself into a ditch or swerving into a pole because you couldn’t handle scary driving situations at the time.

4. Rollover Crash

If you’re struck with enough force or take a curb too sharply, you run the risk of tipping over. This is especially the case if you have a heavier vehicle such as a van or truck. You can cause horrible injury to those who are in the car and out.

For example, if you tip over in the middle of the road and another driver can’t stop in time, they’ll crash and get hurt themselves. If you tip over and the roof caves in due to the impact then this could cause head damage to you and anyone else in the car with you.

5. Running off the Road

Running off the road is a lot more common than you would think. For those who live in icy and snowy areas, they run this risk every time bad weather hits. Just one patch of ice is enough to send a car spiraling into a guardrail.

Going back to the scenario in the beginning, many people take hour commutes to work and back every day. Sometimes after working a ten-hour shift or longer. This can cause these people to run off the road out of pure exhaustion.

You can be run off the road by an impatient driver. If this happens you can get in touch with this law firm but that doesn’t change the fact that you’ve been injured. As you can see, there are so many ways that you could run off the road.
