Looking for a New Years Celebration? Check out These 4 Crazy Events

Everyone wants to start the New Year off with a bang!

You may want to kiss last year goodbye with a lot of fanfare, or you may want to get off on the right foot in order to stick to those resolutions. Either way, plan something festive and exciting which will make New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day a time to remember.

Some people like to stay at home and enjoy a good bottle of wine. Others like to watch the ball drop on Times Square. But how about trying something really different?

We have some out-of-the-box suggestions which could make for a truly unforgettable New Year’s celebration. Here are four crazy ideas for New Year’s around the globe.

1. Edinburgh, Scotland

Hogmanay is the Scottish celebration of New Year’s, and it is quite the party. They celebrate there for three days straight.

Edinburgh holds a big music festival with live bands, DJs, and fireworks. People have also been known to dress up in fancy clothes and dive into the freezing cold Firth of Forth.

Scotland is pretty cold in the wintertime,  so make sure you pack accordingly.  And be prepared to warm up with some single malt whiskey, one of the country’s best products.

If you plan on documenting your festivities on social media, stock up on some cool videos, gifs and other digital images to wish all your friends around the world a Happy New Year 2019.

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Denmark is surprisingly wild in its New Year’s celebrations. Friends throw broken china and crockery at each other’s doorways as a way of demonstrating their affection!

The Danes also celebrate with a meal of boiled cod. If that is not your preferred dish for a celebratory dinner party, feel free to introduce some of your own traditional dishes to the get-together.

3. Quito, Ecuador

In Ecuador, on New Year’s Eve people make scarecrow-like effigies of famous people and burn them up! This long-standing tradition of burning “los años viejos” means a freedom from the sins of the past. Sometimes people pin notes outlining their past sins on the effigies before they light them up on the stroke of midnight.

There is much partying in the streets on New Year’s in Ecuador and lots of drinking. Some men get dressed up in drag to beg for beer money.

4. Asbury Park, New Jersey

Maybe you have other ideas than traveling to a far-off country and partying all night on New Year’s. You can have fun in good old New Jersey by joining in on the annual New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge

Hundreds of people brave the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean on New Year’s Day to celebrate the new year in this trendy beach town. It does not cost anything to participate,  but you should make sure you have warm dry clothes and a hot toddy waiting for you after you take the plunge.
