Hero Rescues 5 Children From Flying Inflatable Castle
At the 1992 Dandenong Show in Victoria, Australia, an inflatable bouncy castle took flight with 5 children trapped inside.
The pleasant family annual event took a turn after a freak gust of wind blew the castle from its moorings and into the air.
Thankfully, sideshow assistant, Ricky McCasker (21) was working at the nearby ferris wheel and was quick to react.
When he saw the castle head skywards with the children still in it, he made a sprint for the loose guide rope that was trailing behind.
I saw the little kids and I didn’t even think, I just ran over and grabbed the rope,” he said.
Buffeted by the wind, McCasker climbed the rope towards the castle, that was by now over 15 metres in the air.
Clinging to the rope with one hand, the young hero grabbed hold of each child in turn, pulling them from the inflatable and dropping them into the awaiting arms of people that had gathered below.
I was holding on to the rope with one hand and reaching into the castle with the other and grabbing one kid at a time, just dragging them out,” he said.
After each child was safe, Mr McCasker finally lost his grip and fell through the canvas roof of the dodgem car track.
There he suffered an electric shock from the dodgems, while also sustaining a leg injury that required 52 stitches.
