Lullaby Factory – A Secret Music Installation In London
Amidst the sound of traffic and the hubbub of humanity in central London, lies a secret music installation called the Lullaby Factory.
The intriguing musical contraption is housed between a new and old building at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Installed in 2012, the Lullaby Factory is a concoction of pipes and horns that spreads across the exterior of one of the hospital’s Victorian facades.
Studio Weave are the team behind the design and construction of the installation. Their aim was to create something for the young patients at the hospital to discover and enjoy.
Sound artist Jessica Curry has created the musical score that is played through the system, the sounds emanating through large towering metal devices – some of which are made using pieces salvaged from an old hospital boiler.
And for the children too sick to leave their rooms, the music from the Lullaby Factory is also piped through the hospital radio.
A wonderful hidden gem in London, enjoyed by those that need it most.
