One Woman’s Obsession For All Things Coca Cola

Collecting objects can be a fun past time. Sometimes however, it can turn into an obsession.

Case in point would be Lillian Glanmire, an Irishwoman whose interest in Coca Cola may have gone too far.

Lilian has spent thousands of dollars converting her home into a shrine to the famous soft drink. Every single room in Lillian’s home is covered in the brand’s iconic red and white colors.

The Coke logo is splashed across every surface that she sees fit, with vintage Coca Cola items adding a bit of history to the mix.

Lillian’s fascination for all things Coke began 30 years ago, when she was traveling from Germany to Austria. After crossing the border between the two countries, and realising that she could buy the same product in each – the global reach of Coca Cola hit home.

From that point on, she decided she would collect Coke cans from every country that the drink existed.

I collected them for about 28 years,” she said. “When friends and family went off to different countries, they would bring me back some. They were up in the loft for years and I suddenly thought we should do the small bedroom up in Coca Cola. So, we did the small bedroom up in Coca Cola and that’s my son’s room now.”

To keep adding to her collection, Lillian obviously travels far and wide.

In a recent interview with the press she revealed that she often travels all the way to New York, just to a shop at a place called Grand Slam in Times Square. Apparently the Coca Cola memorabilia is great there.

The inspiration to convert her whole house into a Coca Cola shrine, came from an unlikely source:

I was watching Come Dine With Me about five years ago and I thought oh I’ll do the kitchen up in Coca Cola, because one of the women in it had a Coca Cola sign in her kitchen,” she added. “I just said to Barry we’ll do the kitchen up and within six months the whole kitchen was done up in Coca Cola.”

And from there, each room of the house was slowly turned into a red and white themed soft drink ‘Installation’.

Ironically Coca Cola is not Lillian’s favourite soft drink. Lillian said she prefers Pepsi because Pepsi is “sweeter”.
