The 2020 Wedding Trends Everybody Is Talking About

Wedding Photo

Wedding bells may be ringing in the distant future, but you don’t want them to sound like everyone else’s.

Instead, you want to brush up on 2020 wedding trends so that your big day features the newest and best that the year has to offer.

These are nine of the latest wedding trends to consider for your one-of-a-kind nuptials.

1. Sustainability

If you think about it, a wedding incurs a lot of waste.

Fresh florals wilt, you’ll use paper products once, and leftover food will end up in the garbage.

That’s why so many brides- and grooms-to-be have decided to make their ceremonies sustainable. You have plenty of methods for doing so.

For one thing, you can choose a location that’s convenient to most of your guests to reduce their carbon footprint in traveling to you. Choose local food suppliers and vendors to cut down on fuel costs, too. And decorate with reusable pieces — even if you don’t want them, your guests could take home potted plants from the venue, for example.

All of these efforts combined will make your wedding greener. With that, it’ll be on-trend in 2020 and beyond.

2. Roses

No flower has stronger associations to love than the rose. Nevertheless, the bloom has fallen out of favor with brides. In 2020, though, you can expect a reverse on that trend.

Brides will opt for bouquets of roses in a single shade to make a simple, romantic statement. You can work with your local florist to find the right variety and color of rose to suit your ceremony. You can learn more here

3. Cassis, Faded Denim, Neo Mint, and Yellow

It’s time to forego the millennial pink and lavender bridesmaids’ dresses of years past. Instead, brides in 2020 will look to refresh with updated versions of these sweet pastels.

One soon-to-be-popular option is cassis, which lives somewhere between purple and pink. You can envision what faded denim looks like — the soft blue would suit both a summer or winter wedding.

Next, you might peruse dresses and accents in neo mint, a more pigmented pastel than those used in years prior. Finally, yellow will be popular. If you’re marrying in the fall, it could be the perfect warm, seasonal hue.

4. Embroidered Gowns

You’re probably thinking, “Wedding gowns have always had embroidery.” But we’re not talking about flower motifs or lacy details. Now, 2020 wedding trends will have you stitching words onto your dress.

Celebrities have done this already. For example, Hailey Baldwin married Justin Bieber in a dress that said, “‘Til Death Do Us Part.”

Everyday brides have also picked up on the trend. They’ve had bible verses, important dates and other sweet mementos embroidered onto their gowns.

Best of all, this trend’s super easy to implement. You can buy a gown from a bridal boutique and find someone to embroider your must-have sentiment into it or the veil.

5. Snaked Tables

One of the hardest parts of wedding planning is choosing who sits where. This 2020 trend could make that job much more manageable.

Rather than separating their guests, brides and grooms will start pushing tables together in a squiggled line. The result will be a snaking dining area with room for most everyone to sit.

You’ll still have to decide who sits where, but you won’t have to worry about dividing up anyone. Plus, the snaked setup will look great in the reception space and photos.

6. Romantic Tresses — Accessorized, Too

Once upon a time, brides wore their hair in tight updos slicked back with ample amounts of hairspray. This styling had a purpose, of course — it kept the styling in place all day and all night.

However, brides have realized that the perfectly imperfect can look just as gorgeous. In 2020, more and more women will say “I do” with their hair down. Their bridesmaids might rock the same style.

Even if you still want an updo, it doesn’t have to be anything fussy. Soft waves, loose braids, and chignons all fit this trend.

If you want something more structured, you’ll find it in hair accessories. Many brides will be wearing headbands, barrettes, and even fresh flowers to accentuate their wedding day looks.

7. SYOB — Serve Your Own Beverage

It’s quite common to see brides and grooms creating a signature cocktail for their receptions.

Now, though, it’ll be easier than ever to serve up your unique libation. Many weddings will feature self-service drink stations, where guests can pour the couples’ drink from a wall-mounted dispenser. Have some garnishes to the side so everyone can finish the cocktail to their taste.

8. Statement-Making Decorations

You’ve seen platinum weddings on TV, where every guest table has a large planter dripping with flowers.

As far as 2020 wedding trends go, though, less is more when it comes to decor. So, settle on a few must-have elements to be featured in your wedding.

For instance, you can skip the massive table settings for a floral installation to go over the sweetheart’s table or dance floor. You could hang a custom neon light in the reception space, which would make for great photos.

Sometimes, this trend also means settling on a single surprise element for your reception. Let’s say you want a fireworks display to end the evening. If so, cut down on other decorations to hone focus on such a dazzling addition.

9. Fashion-Forward Grooms

It’s not just about bridal fashion in 2020.

Instead, you’ll see the grooms taking more time to figure out what they and their groomsmen will wear. And, chances are, they’ll choose something different than the traditional black tux, white shirt, and black shoes.

On top of that, men will probably splurge on items to make them feel special on their big day. Just as the ladies crack into classy bottles of Prosecco, grooms might invest in a nice bottle of pre-ceremony whiskey. They’ll also make grooming a priority, signing up for spa treatments and purchasing special cologne.
