The Pet Buffalo That Rides In The Car To The Pub
You might need to blink a couple of times to take in the image above. However, your eyes are not deceiving you – that’s a real buffalo riding around in a convertible. His name is Bailey and he belongs to Jim and Linda Sautner in Spruce Grove, Alberta.
Not only does Bailey like to drive around in the modified car, but he also joins his owners for a pint of ale in the local pub.
Linda, Jim and Bailey drive around town in their custom modified convertible and often stop at the local pub for a pint of ale.
Matthew Wortman, director/producer of a 2010 documentary by Scientific Films, said:
It’s pretty amazing to see such a wild animal in this sort of an unusual setting, really. Bailey is a little frisky at times, but it’s amazing how tame he is.”
It’s not the first time the family have reared a buffalo. Bailey Sr. came before but he died when he was 8 years old.
Not long after Bailey Jr. came into their lives, when he was just a calf, a special connection between Jim and the baby buffalo was formed. Linda explains:
They are best of buddies and Jim’s quite the buffalo whisperer. He really works well with animals and seems to have a special affinity for buffalo – he reads them very carefully and understands them very well. He is very consistent in his training and he doesn’t let them get away with anything, but he also is never harsh. He never strikes them.”
