There are many search engines available on the internet. But Google makes up over 90 percent of the market.

The phrase ‘to google’ or ‘googling’ has even entered our lexicon.

Surely, we know everything there is to know about the search engine that we use on a daily basis.

Yet there are many Google facts that you probably don’t know about. Keep reading to find out what they are!

1. You Can Image Search with an Image

Can you not remember the name of an actor? Or maybe you want to discover the name of the artist who painted the picture on your wall?

Everyone knows that you can search for any image you want on Google. But did you know that you can do an image search too?

All you have to do is click on the image search icon. A small camera icon appears on your display screen.

By clicking on the camera button, you’ll be requested by Google to enter the URL of the image.

Obviously, in many cases, you don’t have a URL for the image you’re searching. That’s why Google also provides you with the option to upload the image to from your computer. You might have to take a photo of the picture you want to image search before you can do this.

The origin of the picture you search for will be provided by the search engine. Pretty incredible, eh?

2. You Translate Pretty Much Anything

Oh, sorry that’s German for – Google can also translate. But you don’t need me to tell you. Simply enter the phrase above in the Google translation tool.

The search engine can translate over one hundred languages. Over 30 languages are already available from Google Assistant so you don’t even have to type anything into the search engine.

Google Translate might not be able to translate important documents just yet. But it’s getting really, really accurate.

3. Websites Compete for Rankings

You know when you search for the search terms “the best coffee in New York” or maybe you ask “how old is Donald Trump”?

There are actually websites competing to give you the answer.

An entire industry has grown to develop a strategy to improve rankings on Google. It’s called SEO or search engine optimization!

4. Use the Stopwatch

You have probably entered something like “how long to cook a soft boiled egg” into Google before.

The answer is around 5 minutes, by the way.

But did you know that you can actually use the Google timer to alert you when your eggs are ready? Ping!

5. Travel Back in Time

Unfortunately, Google has yet to invent time travel. However, if you find that all these fun facts about Google are getting too much for you.

Go back in time by searching for Google in 1998. You’ll be in for a treat seeing Google in the late 90s.
